Rashard Zanders

As a journalist Rashard is a dedicated reporter who advocates for marginalized communities and peoples often excluded from the social, economic, educational mainstream. Rashard has worked as a staff writer for the Madison, WI weekly, The Madison Times, and the daily, The Capital Times from 1992-1995; he served as an intern at the Minneapolis weekly The City Pages from 1995-1996, and served as community editor at the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder from 2004-2007, after which time he returned to teaching adults and blogging. His articles have appeared in over 40 publications nationwide. He has interviewed writers Walter Moseley, Minister Faust, jazz luminaries Marcus Roberts, Hugh Masekela, and dub poetMutabaruka. He has also interviewed several political figures such as former WI governor Tommy Thompson, former St. Paul Mayor Randy Kelly, Reps. Keith Ellison and his predecessor Martin Sabo, poets Rita Dove and Natasha Tretheway.
