As part of the Dupont Circle First Friday Art Walk, artist Bran Cherie presents Metamorphosis, a thoughtful solo exhibition exploring growth, resilience, healing, identity, and the universal nature of change.

The exhibition is on view August 7 through September 4, 2026, coinciding with one of Washington's most popular monthly cultural traditions. Every First Friday from 6:00–8:00 p.m., the Dupont Circle Art Walk opens galleries, museums, embassies, and cultural centers to the public in a free, self-guided experience where visitors are encouraged to discover the neighborhood's vibrant arts community at their own pace.

At the center of Cherie's work is the butterfly—not merely as an object of beauty, but as a symbolic language representing life's continual evolution.

Rather than painting butterflies simply for their aesthetic appeal, Cherie uses them as metaphors for experiences shared across humanity. Every person, regardless of culture, background, or belief, navigates periods of uncertainty, renewal, growth, loss, healing, and rediscovery. The butterfly becomes a visual framework through which these emotional landscapes are explored.

The Artist Behind the Exhibition

Born in Los Angeles, California, Bran Cherie creates conceptual paintings that investigate themes of identity, love, connection, transformation, and the emotional interior of everyday life.

Working primarily in oil and acrylic, her artistic voice has been shaped by an unusually diverse life journey. Having lived throughout South Korea, Italy, Hawaii, and across the continental United States, while also serving in the United States Air Force, Cherie brings an expansive cultural perspective to her work.

During her undergraduate studies she founded the Mereri Art Collective, expanding access to the arts through exhibitions, workshops, and community-centered programming. Since beginning her career with commissioned paintings in 2016, her practice has evolved into creating symbolic, concept-driven collections that invite audiences to reconsider familiar imagery through new emotional and cultural perspectives.

Her work has been exhibited throughout California, Hawaii, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., and she continues preparing for graduate study in Fine Arts while developing increasingly ambitious bodies of work.
