As many left their jobs on April 15, 2015, hundreds of workers marched in downtown Chicago to demand an increase in minimum wage to $15 per hour. The protestors included retail, nursing home, and child care employees.
According ABC Chicago News, the FIGHT FOR 15 march began at the University of Illinois at Chicago campus where students delivered a petition to the chancellor of the university requesting that all workers and adjunct faculty on the UIC campus in every college receive $15 an hour.
Marchers walked north on Halsted St. from the University of Illinois Chicago campus to Jackson Blvd. in downtown Chicago where they congregated in front of The Chicago Board of Trade.
The Economic Policy Institute posted a chart that shows the minimum wage increases from 1968 to 2014. The graph shows that the minimum wage in 2014 should be over $18 if it kept up with productivity.
The march took place on Tax Day, which is the annual deadline to file state as well as federal tax statements on the past year's earnings.
Several protesters held signs in both English and Spanish that read 'We are worth more.'
