A grand jury in Missouri decided not to indict Officer Darren Wilson for the shooting death of Michael Brown. Michael Brown, an unarmed teenager, was shot by Officer Wilson on August 9, 2014. The grand jury spokesman said the decision was based on scientific evidence.
The parents of Michael Brown asked to have 4.5 minutes of silence for the 4.5 hours that Michael Brown's body laid in the street.
The world watched the announcement from Missouri. The Grand Jury made of 12 St. Louis county residents across demographics were selected by a judge before the shooting incident on August 9. They spent 25 days deliberating their decision.
Officer Wilson's testimony will be released to public now that he will not face indictment for the shooting death of Michael Brown.
Reaction to the grand jury's decision was met with protest and disappointment. The parents of Michael Brown shared a statement, "We are profoundly disappointed that the killer of our child will not face the consequences of his actions."
President Barack Obama made a statement from Washington D.C immediately after the grand jury's decision. The President told protestors to channel their feelings constructively. "There is never an excuse for violence," he said.
He encouraged the news media to focus on Michael Brown's parents, the clergy, and community leaders who want to find the ways to lead to positive change this situation.
Twitter exploded with tweets of photos and videos showing protests and people expressing their disappointment in the decision.
