What does it mean to be a Chicagoan? Diversity could be one description. After months of artistic interactive collaboration with more than 30 community organizations this summer, on Saturday, October 4, Chicago's Redmoon Theater will present Chicagoans 'grit' in a grand spectacle event called "The Great Chicago Fire Festival."
The culminating festival will take place at Upper Wacker Drive and Michigan Avenue in downtown Chicago. The festival will include break dance performances and neighborhood bazaars featuring art, jewelry sales, clothes, and food.
In partnership with the City of Chicago and the Chicago Park District, Redmoon Theater created the Great Chicago Fire Festival, a free event to unite Chicago’s neighborhoods and celebrate Chicago’s grit, greatness and renewal following the fire of 1871.
Beginning at 8pm, the main event will begin with a Cauldron Drop, where fiery cauldrons will be dropped from the Michigan Avenue Bridge (between State and Columbus). Some of the cauldrons were created by students of After School Matters.
Here is a list of the Great Chicago Fire Festival Timeline of events.

Known for its ethnic diversity, Albany Park is considered among the most ethnically diverse neighborhoods not just in Chicago, but in the world. Chicagoans in Albany Park celebrated what it means to be a Chicagoan in a Community Peace Walk that emphasized their diversity. The peace walk followed music, food, and entertainment that represented the diversity of Albany Park.
Redmoon Theater brought a large mobile photo and video booth to the marchers who took photos.
"All the stories and photos from these community celebrations will be shared in a massive event downtown Chicago on October 4th," said Will from Redmoon Theater.
